The Central Valley paper reports that UC is using $500,000 in interest from a private endowment fund to the university and $185,000 in private contributions to cover the costs - with the rest coming from campus sources described as "non-stat e dollars." The university rented thousands of chairs and brought in a bank of metal detectors, air-conditione d restroom trailers and JumboTrons for the May 16 event - plus "enough sod to cover the ceremony site," the paper says. Before Obama confirmed she was attending, the budget for the university 9;s inaugural graduation was $100,000, the paper says.
